When God Interrupts You (and Why It’s Actually Mercy)

When God Interrupts You (and Why It’s Actually Mercy)

There are seasons when nothing is “wrong”... but everything just feels "off".

You’re still showing up. Still praying. Still trying. Yet the old ways of coping don’t hit the same. The distractions don’t last as long. And the quiet feels louder than usual. If that’s you, let me gently say this:

You may not be spiraling.

You may be in an interruption.

The Kind of Season No One Warns You About

Recently, I started daily Bible readings via “The Bible Recap” and we were assigned to read Genesis 4–7.

On paper, it’s a heavy section—sin, violence, genealogy, a flood.

But underneath all of it, one theme stood out:

God intervenes early.

Before things fully fall apart. Before patterns harden. Before harm becomes legacy.

In Genesis, God warns Cain before the act. He preserves Noah during judgment. He introduces Seth after loss.

He walks closely with Enoch in the middle of it all. And I realized something uncomfortable but freeing:

Sometimes God interrupts us not because we’re failing— but because He’s protecting us.

What an “Interruption” Actually Feels Like

This kind of season doesn’t come with flashing lights or loud alarms.

It looks like:

  • heightened self-awareness
  • conviction without condemnation
  • restlessness with old habits
  • a quiet nudge that says, “Let’s talk about this.”

It’s the moment where you catch a thought before it turns into a habit. Where you notice an urge before it takes over. Where God says, “We’re not going down that road again.”

Not shame. Not punishment. Mercy.

Why I Named This Season “The Interruption”

Naming a season gives you language—and language gives you power.

The Interruption is the space where God lovingly pauses your momentum to tend to what’s happening beneath the surface.

It’s not the season to fix everything.

It’s the season to notice, sit, and walk—slowly—with God.

And because this season kept showing up in my own life, I created something to help me stay present instead of rushing through it.

A Free Resource for This Season

I created a one-page Season Page designed for GoodNotes, journaling, or printing—something you can return to daily when emotions rise or clarity feels fuzzy.

Inside the page, you’ll find:

  • a clear definition of The Interruption
  • a scripture anchor (Genesis 4:7)
  • space to name what God is interrupting and cultivating
  • a grounding plan for moments when you feel the urge to escape
  • a gentle declaration you can read daily

It’s not overwhelming. It’s not performative. It’s meant to be held, not hurried.

If This Season Sounds Like You… Please hear this:

You’re not behind.

You’re not broken.

You’re not regressing.

You are being interrupted by grace. And sometimes, that’s the holiest place to be.

My hope is that this page gives you language, compassion, and permission to walk—not run—through what God is gently addressing.

You don’t have to rush this season.

God isn’t.

If this resonated with you, feel free to share it with someone who may be quietly walking through their own interruption. Sometimes awareness is the first step toward healing.

XOXO,

Michelle
